The ‘Janta Suchna Kendra’ or Public Information Centre concept came about through long term work within Asha Parivar around the exposure of corruption, and the use of the Right to Information Act to that end. The first center was started in Kanpur on 5th June 2012 and currently there are eight such centers operational mostly in rural Uttar Pradesh.

Public Information Centers or “Janta Suchna Kendra” help the common man in redressing his/her complaints regarding government schemes involving employment, education, pension etc.

These centers are equipped with computer and internet connections and run by experienced social activists. The volunteers running the centers help the common man and woman in formulating RTI application for his/her grievance and also take up issues with local government authorities on his/her behalf on a needs basis.

Started with seed money of barely Rs 45-60 thousand, each center is based on a financially sustainable model as there is a nominal charge for print-outs and typing
